此句不能翻譯成：通往市中心的馬路現正在修理中。如果要表達此意，應該說：
The road leading to the downtown area is under repair.
in repair和under pair的涵義并不相同，前者的意思為：in good condition，保存良好，修理完好，相當于in good repair; 后者的意思為：在修理中。Repair也可以用復數形式，如under repairs，其義相當于in course of repair。
下面請看例子：
This building is in repair.
這幢樓已修好了。
This building is under repair.
這幢樓在修理中。
All of these ships are in repair.
所有這些船都已修好了。
All of these ships are under repair.
所有這些船都在修理中。
下面幾點請注意：
1. in good repair表示“已修理好”；
in bad repair 表示“失修” 與out of repair相同意義；
beyond repair是“已損壞得不能修理”
2. repair一詞的形容詞是repairable(可以修理的)，反義詞為irreparable(難以修復的)
3.請注意下面句子中repair作名詞和動詞的用法：
Repairs done while you wait.
=Repair while you wait.
=Instant repair.
馬上修理，立等可取
The shop is closed during repairs.
內部裝修，暫停營業。
4. 在英語中，不同的介詞和名詞（或代詞）搭配，往往會產生截然不同的涵義，如本則中的in repair和under repair。下面再舉兩例：
Production was reduced by 10 percent.
產量減少了百分之十
Production was reduced to 10 percent.
產量減少到百分之十
He did it by himself.
他獨立地去做這件事。
He did it of himself.
他自愿去做這件事。
所以此句翻譯為：通往市中心的道路已經修好了。
