昂立外語【新概念培訓】分享cover這個詞，這個詞是新二Lesson 5 No wrong numbers中出現的詞，原文是這樣的：“The bird covered the distance in three minutes.” 在這里，cover的意思是越過，走過一段路程。（沒有說明使用何種方式越過）那么這句話的意思就是：這只鳥用了三分鐘飛完了全程。舉個例子：We covered 50 kilometers by car
yesterday. 我們昨天開車行進了50公里。
但其實除此之外，cover的用法特別廣泛，我們現在來看一看它還有哪些神奇的用法吧~
cover 作為v. 時，有以下這些用法：
①覆蓋，遮蓋
如：As we’ve seen, oceans cover more than 70% of the earth.
正如我們所知，海洋覆蓋地球面積的70%以上。
cover ……with…… 用……把……覆蓋
eg: She covered her face with her hands.
她用雙手遮住了臉。
The mountain is covered with the snow all year around.
山全年被雪覆蓋著。
②掩蓋
We all know that lies cannot cover facts.
我們都知道謊言掩蓋不了事實。
③看完，讀完（多少頁）
How many pages have you covered?
你讀了多少頁了？
④占地面積
cover an area of
The city covers an area of 500 square kilometers.
這座城市占地500平方公里。
⑤報道，采訪
cover sth. interview sb.
Who will cover the event?
誰會報道這個事件？
⑦（錢）夠……用；足以支付
Will 200 yuan cover the cost of the dinner?
200元足以支付晚餐嗎？
⑧包含，包括，涉及
A year covers 12 months. 一年包含12個月。
The talks are expected to cover other topics, too. 會談估計還會涉及別的話題。
cover 作為n 時，有以下意思：
①封面，蓋子，表面
A box usually has a cover. 盒子通常都有蓋子。
②（書等的）封面，封皮
The book needs a new cover.
這本書需要裝個新封面。
③幌子，偽裝
The spy’s cover was that she was a consultant engineer.
那個女間諜拿顧問工程師當幌子。
④掩蔽，掩護
For this operation we need plenty of air cover.
這次軍事行動我們需要充足的空中掩護。
詞組辨析

be covered by…. （被動） 由…承擔/負擔/支付；被…掩護/報道/監視/控制等等，表示抽象的概念，后面接人，機構，或者組織。
