昂立外語【新概念培訓】分享effort這個小詞。
在Webster字典中的解釋為：
作為 n. (C&U)
1. work done by the mind or body : energy used to do sth. 努力
e.g. It wasn't easy, but it was worth the effort.
事情不易，但值得一搏。
Our success is due to the combined/concerted efforts of many people.
concerted/joint efforts 共同努力 （口譯詞匯）
我們的成功歸功于很多人共同努力。
Our efforts turned out in vain.
我們的努力到頭來白費了。
在表達“努力”時，常使用下列詞組：
make an/every/no effort to do sth.
He made no effort to hide his feelings.
他一點也不刻意隱藏情緒。
I had to make every effort not to laugh.
我竭盡全力不笑出來。
The school makes every effort to help new students become adjusted to college life.
學校竭盡全力幫助新生適應大學生活。
在表示目的時，也可以使用詞組：
in an effort to do…
In an effort to avoid further delays, the delivery process has been simplified.
為了避免更多延誤，送貨過程已得到精簡。
形近詞：
effect n. 作用，效果
have an effect on… 對…產生影響 an和effect中間可以加adj.
Singing English songs has a good effect on the language learning.
唱英文歌曲對語言學習有很好的作用

寫作中當表達“竭盡全力做某事”時，大家第一反應就是try one’s best to do這樣“地球人都知道”的語言，如果想讓表達上“不落窠臼”表達新意，抓住閱卷老師的眼球，就要“去粗取精”用更地道復雜的結構替代之。
今天我們就可以用make every effort to do來替代try one’s best to do…小伙伴們積累下來了么？^_^
