1. There is an evidence that having a pet can help a person lead a longer healthier life. A recent study
concluded that owning a pet can reduce the risk of a heart attack by 2% and that pets can help in reducing
blooding pressure. Owing a pet can also prolong survival of a heart attack.

2.In general, teachers are reported to be happy with their jobs, despite the current issues with education
funding a classroom conditions. The profession continues to attract young idealists, although 50% of new
teachers are gone within 5 years.

個固定句式，新概念2里面就有上過；
current issues， 當前問題；despite：盡管，雖然；funding 由fund 變過來，是經費的意思；idealists，理想主義者；兩個數字都不難，50％ 和5年。

3. The appearance of a sportsman holding a torch now marks the beginning of every Olympic Games. This
special ceremony dates back to ancient Greece. This ceremony, holding every four years with the site of the
ancient Olympics, started in Berlin. The most eyecatching events was the arrival of the torch across the
stadium to light the bowl.

appearance，是appear的名詞形式，“出現”，注意這里不能翻譯為“外表”，在翻譯完這個詞后，要帶進原文來
檢查一下句意通順與否；torch 火把，火炬；mark 標志； date back to 追溯到；every four years 每隔四年；site
場地； Berlin 柏林（德國首都，常見的地名需要掌握）；eye-catching，吸引眼球的，（是eye 和catch的復合詞，
能從字面上猜出詞意）；bowl，這里不是“碗”，而是奧運圣火臺！翻譯的時候，不能說是在碗里點火，這里是指圣
火臺的形狀很像碗，是借用／比喻。
