Since we are social beings, the quality of our lives depends to a great extent on our interpersonal relationships. One strength of the human condition is our tendency to give and receive support from one another under stressfulcircumstances. Social support consists of the exchange of resources among people based on their interpersonal ties. Those of us with strong support systems appear better able to cope with major life changes and daily troubles. People with strong social ties live longer and have better health than those without such ties. Studies over a range of illnesses,from depression to heart disease, reveal that the presence of social support helps people avoid illness, and the absence of such support makes poor health more likely.
Social support helps to lessen stress in a number of ways. To begin with, friends, relatives, and colleagues may let us know that they value us. Our self-respect is strengthened when we feel accepted by others we may have faults and difficulties. Secondly, other people often provide us with informational support. They help us to define and understand our problems and find solutions to them. Thirdly, social companionship is found to be typically supportive. Engaging in leisure-time activities with others helps us to meet our social needs while at the same timediverting our attention from our worries and troubles. Finally, other people may give us instrumental support—financial aid, material resources, and needed services—that reduces stress by helping us resolve and cope with our problems.

Housing Problems in Big Cities

With the rapid development in the fields of economy and society, there comes along with some problems as well. One of these issues is that people currently are confronted with the problems on housing, especially in the big cities. Today, I’d like to introduce some of my views about this problem.
First and foremost, many real estate companies would like to hypethe house prices, from which they could get high profits. These companies may sometimes buy a large acre of fields for the compounds building and raise the starting prices. For another, some of them even build the compounds in a rural area but they cannot sell these compounds well, perhaps because of poor infrastructure around. This actually could be a kind a waste. While in the city centre, the houses or flats are really popular. The imbalanced distribution of these compounds may aggregate the problem in the society.
Therefore, the biggest problem coming from housing is that the house price is getting higher and higher in big cities, such as that of in Beijing,Shanghai and Guangzhou, so that fewer and fewer people could afford it. People now have to spend much more money on housebuying than what they used to, which has negative effect on people’s quality of daily life as a result.
Still, similarly brought by increasing housing prices, a great many people, particularly the young couples, are now facing great pressure when they want to buy a new house or a flat in big cities. For example, if they decide to buy one apartment, they cannot pay in one go so they have to apply for the loan plan from bank, in which they must pay lots of interests and is another burden for them.
To sum up, I think the imbalanced distribution of houses, rising house price and people’s rising pressure are all the problems brought by housing.
