世界三大男高音之一盧西亞諾·帕瓦羅蒂因病離開了人世，終年71歲。這位大師同癌癥抗爭了很久，在逝世前一周，意大利政府還授予帕瓦羅蒂“意大利文化卓越貢獻”獎（The Italian government honored him with an award for "excellence in Italian culture".）。帕瓦羅蒂在最后的聲明中說:“這一獎項給了我繼續享受藝術生命的機會，我為自己能將祖國的輝煌文化推向世界感到十分自豪和欣慰（The award gives me the opportunity to continue to celebrate the magic of a life dedicated to the arts and it fills me with pride and joy to have been able to promote my magnificent country abroad.）。”
但是最終病魔還是奪去了他的生命。盡管如此，他生前一直樂觀面，直面病魔，直到去世。從今以后，人們再也聽不到帕瓦羅蒂那標志性的“高音C”了。歌王帕瓦羅蒂的葬禮在他的家鄉意大利摩德納舉行，整個葬禮歷時近兩個半小時。近5萬名來自世界各地的歌迷專程趕來送歌王最后一程。一位歌迷表示：“我們祈禱上帝會允許他在天堂一展歌喉(We pray that God will allow him to use his voice in heaven.)。”（圖文/陳玉宇）
