昂立外語【新概念培訓】分享的小詞face, Face是我們身體的組成部分，因此不論是作為名詞還是形容詞，但是其實被我們使用的意思比較單一，比如新概念課本當中用到的face無外乎三種意思。
新三 Lesson 7 Mutilated ladies當中：With theatrical make-up on his face, he looked as if he had died of shock.
這里面的face意思就是最基本的臉龐，那么lose face就是我們常用的一個短語，意為丟臉。而face value也就有了面值的意思，而on the face of sth，則以為乍看之下。
Lesson38 The first calendar當中：But the historian attempting to reconstruct the distant past is always faced with a difficult task.
這里的be faced with是日常生活中常用的面臨面對的意思，就相當于及物動詞face.
另外Lesson52 Mud is mud當中，How Harry managed to keep a straight face during these performances is quite beyond me.
這里的keep a straight face我們倒是可以學習運用起來哦，它的意思就是板著個臉。
接下來我們就來看一看face的其他用法吧！
It was too dark to see the face of my watch. 天太黑了，以致看不見我表盤上的時間。
這里其實就相當于是擬人化啦，人家表也是有“臉”的嘛，人家的臉就是表盤啊！
...scientific principles that seem to fly in the face of common sense.
…一些看似完全有悖常識的科學原理。所以這個短語fly in the face of 就是run counter to/ go against的意思。你可以想象成一下飛到某人臉上，扇了它一個巴掌，那肯定就是和它相對了。
最后我們來看一個face the music。Little Jim broke his neighbor’s window. But he said to himself: “Well, just face the music.”
“面對音樂”，所以這是不是一件特別好的事情呢，哈哈！不是哦，其實它的意思是accept the unpleasant consequences of one's actions。
